Vitality have broken the news that Nathan “NBK-” Schmitt has been benched from the active roster. The news comes following a quarterfinals exit at the StarLadder Major where they were eliminated by AVANGAR who have now made it to the finals.

The team cited the “2 in-game leaders” situation having “reached its limits” as the reason for this move. NBK- had been working alongside Alex ‘ALEX’ McMeekin as the teams in-game leader.

According to a follow up tweet, NBK- is still contracted and “a decision regarding his future will come in the upcoming days.”

NBK had been a member of the team when they were brought on to Vitality, helping to shape the vision of the team. During their tenure under the Vitality banner, they earned a spot at the second best team in the world according to the rankings.

One fault of the team, however, is just how dependent they’ve been on Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut. Without more firepower to consistently fall back on, the team struggled to find wins without absolutely dominant performances from the young talent. Having two in-game leaders when the game plan centers around one player going off seems rather unnecessary.

NBK- is a veteran of the scene and is certainly still able to compete, it’s just a matter of where.

This news was shared by minutes before Vitality made the announcement.
