China’s qualifier for The International 2019 came to an end today with the region finding its final squad which will head to Shanghai in August. The grand finals came down to CDEC Gaming and Royal Never Give Up in an epic best-of-five series.
Both CDEC and RNG had met twice already in the regional qualifiers – once in the best-of-one group stage and then again in the first round of playoffs. While it was RNG who claimed the group stage victory, CDEC ran rings around them in the playoffs. However, RNG were more than up to the challenge of the lower bracket and after taking down EHOME earlier today, they were ready to fight in the grand finals.
It was instantly clear that neither team were about to give up a spot at TI9 easily and they threw everything at one another to give us a brilliant full-five game series. The final game of the series was extremely close with CDEC controlling the early period and pushing RNG back. But, as their name states, RNG never gave up and fought back amazingly to force out the GG. After an intense qualifier, which saw CDEC rise out of nowhere, they were unfortunately not going to make it to TI9, falling by the wayside like EHOME, Invictus Gaming and Newbee.
For Royal Never Give Up, after a fairly poor Dota 2 Pro Circuit season, they would manage to beat out all the opposition of China’s regional qualifier and claim the final spot for CN at The International 2019. The qualifiers are not completely over just yet with Europe and North America still fighting for their final champions for TI9. By the end of today, we will have a full roster of teams for The International 2019 as we count down the days until we head to Shanghai.
