A top eight finish is all that Team Aster wanted from ESL One Katowice 2019 and that’s exactly what they achieved after losing 0-2 the opening round in the playoffs lower bracket.

First day in the Spodek Arena for ESL One Katowice 2019 began with a bit of a hiccup. A technical issue delayed the first series of the day for about one hour, but that didn’t get the TI Champions distracted. OG came on stage to play their game and had no obstacles in out-drafting and out-playing Aster and deliver a quick 2-0 stomp. In game one they had Jesse “JerAx” Vainikka on Oracle and his main priority was to keep alive Igor “iLTW” Filatov’s Troll Warlord at any costs. In fact, the entire OG draft was built around that Troll. Sébastien “7ckngMad” Debs on Magnus and JerAx were the main initiating tools and the most important enablers for iLTW. The Empower buff with the sustainability provided from the supports, allowed the young CIS carry to simply run over Liu “Sylar” Jiajun’s Morphling.

In game two it was Topias “Topson” Taavitsainen who imposed a fast tempo on his signature Monkey King played in the mid lane. Aster wished they could play a sort of fast pushing game with Death Prophet and Lycan, but they got dominated in the laning stage when their DP died twice in the first five minutes of the game, which required both their supports to focus their efforts in securing the mid lane matchup. Even so, Topson still found the right initiations to keep the lead and execute Aster in just 23 minutes.

ESL One Katowice 2019 ends here for Aster, but for OG the days is not over. The TI champions will return on the stage for the last series of day, which is another elimination battle, this time around facing Ninjas in Pyjamas.
