WePlay! Pushka League Season 1 kicked off its Division 1 today with a single series from each region being played; HellRaisers versus Natus Vincere and Ninjas in Pyjamas versus OG.Seed.
Both Na’Vi and HellRaisers were involved in the recently completed ESL One Los Angeles Online event for the CIS and European region, but with the split in groups, the teams never faced each other as neither made it into the playoffs. While HR did perform admirably, even taking a victory over an impressive Vikin.gg, Na’Vi were left in last place of their group, with only B8 suffering a worse event than them.
Not taking away anything from HR’s performance and draft, Na’Vi were extremely poor from their drafting through to their play across the map. Vladislav ‘Crystallize’ Krystanek’s Dragon Knight was completely shut down through out the game, leaving the squad with only Idan ‘MagicaL’ Vardanian’s Templar Assassin to pick up the pieces – which never occurred. Although game two was a much closer affair, with Na’Vi even claiming a lead for a brief period in the early game, they just had no way to fight against the Aleksandr ‘Nix’ Levin Lycan and surrendered a 2-0 series win to HellRaisers.
Having just been picked up by Ninjas in Pyjamas, the Chicken Fighters roster were in high spirits, considering their admirable run at ESL One LA Online – taking down Nigma in the lower bracket. OG.Seed, having made it through the qualifiers for WePlay! Pushka League would be hoping to show that they deserve their spot – and both teams would give us a fantastic Dota 2 series to close the first day of the event.
NiP had begun the series on the back foot, falling behind by a sizeable amount in the first game of the series, but the squad rallied well and by the time the half hour mark at come, they had turned the tides – pushing their opponent back and taking the win. OG.Seed were not about to give up at all and were able to absolutely roll over NiP in the next game to tie the series and take us to a decisive game three to close the night.
The final game of the series saw Ondřej ‘Supream’ Štarha’s Templar Assassin tear through the OG.Seed lineup – ending the game almost entirely unkillable. Zakari ‘Zfreek’ Freedman’s Clockwerk was the one to take the brunt of the battering as he found himself dying 17 times, with a Silencer to destroy his hero’s Intelligence and mana pool. It may have taken near 40-minutes, but the GG call came out, giving NiP a 2-1 victory.
Tomorrow we will see more action from the WePlay! Pushka League Season 1 as the likes of Team Secret, Team Liquid and B8 all begin their tournament run – while Ninjas in Pyjamas will be hoping to continue in their winning ways.
