The final day of the grueling group stages of the OGA Dota Pit Minor were upon us and it opened with a fantastic set of series in Group A.
The first series was between the Southeast Asian underdogs, BOOM ID, and Ninjas in Pyjamas – both teams on a 1-1 score going in. From most of the panelists and caster, NiP seemed primed to take an easy victory and after they swiftly secured the first game, it seemed that BOOM would end the event in the bottom half of the group. However, one should never underestimate the underdog as BOOM played near perfectly from this point on, stunning everyone as they took down NiP 2-1.
Moving onto the final game of Group A, it would be a David versus Goliath series with Royal Never Give Up taking on Gambit Esports. Gambit had been failing to close things out for the most part at the event, having no victories under their belt, while RNG were at the head of the group without a single loss this far. Game one was fairly simple for the Chinese squad but Gambit came out fighting in the next game. While things became scary in the mid-game, the CIS squad managed to make it stick and tie the series.
Gambit were looking great going into a third game to decide the series – but RNG were ready. The Chinese team were back at the top of the group, winning all three of their series while leaving Gambit without a single victory.
Tomorrow we move into the playoff stages of the OGA Dota Pit Minor and while none of the teams will be in the lower bracket yet, they’ll be throwing their best forward in an attempt to avoid the best-of-one lower bracket.
