With only one slot available at the StarLadder ImbaTV Season 3 Minor for the Southeast Asian region, BOOM Esports and Reality Rift would have to fight their way into the event in a best-of-five series.
BOOM Esports did not have the best run in the closed qualifiers for ESL One Los Angeles a few days ago, with many tied series, it seemed as though they would be part of a tiebreaker in Group B. However, a surprise upset in their final game saw the team take one game off Fnatic and thus they would secure themselves a spot in the Minor qualifier. For Reality Rift, the road to the Minor qualifiers involved taking down Cignal Ultra in the fourth-place playoff decider.
While the two teams had met just yesterday in the upper bracket finals, which BOOM took 2-0, RR gave themselves another chance at reaching the Minor when they eliminated TNC Predator earlier today – thus putting them into a best-of-five grand final. However, the strength of BOOM was far too much for RR to withstand and even though they managed to take one game of the series, BOOM raced off into a 3-1 victory.
With their victory BOOM will now represent the SEA region at the StarLadder ImbaTV Season 3 Minor which begins in early March 2020. This will be the first time the BOOM squad has made it to a DPC event, and they currently join Gambit Esports and business associates, with five more teams to be decided over the next few days. It will be interesting to see if they can cause any upsets at the Minor and possibly join the likes of Geek Fam, Fnatic and Team Adroit at ESL One Los Angeles.
