Moscow’s first ever Dota 2 Major bestowed all its direct invites, and it’s not a surprise to see both CIS front-runner teams spared from the qualifiers hustle.
Virtus.pro were the first announced to attend the event, along with Team Liquid. As we just enter the closed regional qualifiers week, the organizers unveiled the full list of direct invites. There are just five teams honored with a free ticket for the EPICENTER XL Major, but the event will feature a total of 12 participants.
EPICENTER XL directly invited teams:
- Natus Vincere
- Team Liquid
- Team Secret
For its third edition, EPICENTER introduces a new qualifier concept. Apart from the six regional qualifiers, the organizers have added a special “Madness” qualifier leg that offers one spot into the event to absolutely anyone who wants to try their strength. The Madness competition functions similar to open qualifiers, where any team can sign up on FACEIT. There are 256 slots opened, but keep in mind that the games will be held on European servers. A bit over 60 teams have already signed-up for the Madness qualifiers, which is scheduled to run on 24th of March in a single elimination bracket, best-of-one games, including the finals.
Closed regional qualifiers for EPICENTER XL start today, February 12th in Europe, North and South America. The Southeast Asian qualifiers are halfway through already, with Mineski reaching the finals where they wait for their opponent to be decided in the Fnatic vs TNC semifinals. CIS qualifiers will commence towards the end of the month, on the 26th of February, while the dates for Chinese qualifiers haven’t been announced yet.
EPICENTER XL main event will kick off on the 27th of April with a group stage preceding the playoffs. The main event format hasn’t been announced yet, but those interested to witness the event live from the venue must know that only the playoffs will be played in front of the live audience from 4th to 6th of May at the VTB Ice Palace from Moscow, Russia.
