The final is set in Montpellier and the crowd will have a hometown hero to get behind. The Frenchmen of G2 will be up against the current world best of Liquid in the ESL Pro League season 9 grand final and it won’t be for the first time this week.

The two met just days ago to cap off the ESL One Cologne qualifiers, Liquid besting G2 2-0 with victories on Overpass and Nuke. G2 has looked improved, however, and pulled off wins against Cloud9, Heroic, FaZe, and NRG on their way to the final.

On the flipside, Liquid have continued their top form with stellar performances from the likes of Jonathan “EliGE” Jablonowski. They would dispatch TYLOO, HellRaisers, MIBR, Astralis, and mousesports to show just how good this team has gotten.

While G2 is certainly capable of putting up a fight and the crowd will be on their side, Liquid are the favorites by a longshot on paper. It will be interesting to see if Kenny “kennyS” Schrub will continue his dominant performance, having put on a highlight reel throughout this tournament thus far.

Regardless of the outcome, the French scene has been in need of a deep tournament run for a while and for it to happen on home soil is a treat all on its own.
